Design and Implementation of Mobile and Open Source Infrastructure for Telemedicine in Latin America
Brainstorming Workshop - Informatics Forum
Workshop Focus There is an increasing need for scalable mobile health infrastructure, using Open Source across the widely distributed communities across Latin America who are now developing shared infrastructure, standards, training, and a regional agenda to meet these needs http://telemed.wikispaces.com/Links_Conferences_Sites The very rapid uptake of these technologies in the region provides an opportunity for research, training and other links with the Universities and companies who are shaping this.
The Director of the telemedicine programme led from the Univ. Central de Venezuela www.telemed.wikispaces.com/AboutSOS will present an overview of their work, and the kind of collaboration that they hope to achieve. SOS EDIMBURGO 2011b.pptx . The workshop was intended to build more concretely on initial discussions, and define practical next steps, and opportunites for synergies. in the design and integration of mobile / Open Source infrastructure for telemedicine in remote or under-resourced areas.
Theme 1 : Designing scalable mobile and Open Source infrastructure for telemedicine in remote regions a) collaboration on requirements already shared (See Requirements.docx for an overview, See www.sanamobile.org for examples) b) collaboration in terms of standards c) collaboration on low cost applications
Theme 2 : Implementing mobile applications for telemedicine in remote/ under-resourced regions (a) leveraging social networks in the implementation of mobile applications - the Latin Amercian expereince (b) exploring barriers and opportunities for integration of mobile clips for training to the curriculum (c) researching barriers to / impact of ICT on social and and economic development
Project Proposals To start the ball rolling we are submitting a short 4 page, first stage propsal to the EU Alfa programme for collaboration with Latin America on the design and implementation of re-usable mobile resources AlfaIII_Draft Outline2.docx
